Nestled in the Village of Thornton, you can find our branch of the Essa Public Library...we offer our patrons a variety of services including adult & juvenile fiction & non-fiction, Young adult titles, Large Print, videos, dvd's & much more!
Library services started in the basement of the Thornton United Church providing Large Print books to the local Seniors' Club. Soon, a library "deposit station" was established in a small area adjacent to the Thornton Fire Station. It was soon evident that library services were becoming increasingly popular to area residents so a new facility was proposed
In December 1996, the present Thornton Branch was opened! In addition to providing books, dvd's, reference materials and more, the Thornton Branch also has a meeting room that is utilized by many local community groups.
Computer and Internet access is also available to library users. All Essa Public Library patrons can gain access to our electronic database collections--see all links through our "electronic resources" tab on our website!
The Thornton Branch offers interlibrary loan service through SOLS/INFO. Also, the County of Simcoe Library Co-operative provides our branches with rotating collections of audio-books on tape & cd, dvds, read-along sets & CD-ROM kits. These collections are refreshed every four months to bring you new selections.
As a branch of the Essa Public Library, we also feature special programming events, such as Storytime for preschoolers, FamJam Movie Nights, TD Summer Reading Club, Ontario Public Library Week/Canada Library Month, special interest seminars and awareness weeks.
Effective, January 1, 2013, the Essa Public Library Board & Staff are committed to developing and implementing policies, practices and procedures to govern the Library's provision of goods, programs and services which are consistent with the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity for all Library users. Accessible formats are Large Type Books and Audio Books. The Essa Public Library Board Accessible Customer Service Policy, Procedures and Practices is available in 14 or 16 point font upon request.
Come visit the Thornton Branch...we look forward to seeing you!
Lumber Liquidators Donation to the Thornton Branch
Bella Wood, one of our young patrons, is featured in the following YouTube video through Lumber Liquidators Laying It Forward Initiative. $5,000 was donated to the Essa Public Library, Thornton Branch and the Early Literacy Station was purchased with the proceeds. Our thanks to Lumber Liquidators and especially Bella and her family for thinking of the Essa Public Library.
